Rest in Peace, Rev. Msgr. John Scully 

Rev. Msgr. John ScullyThe Rev. Msgr. John Scully passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010, while celebrating Mass at St. Stephen's Parish in Valrico, where he had lived the past three years in his retirement. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1924, he was educated at St. John's Seminary in Boston and ordained a priest on May 6, 1948 for that diocese by Archbishop Richard Cushing.  He came to St. Petersburg in 1953 and was incardinated into the Diocese of St. Augustine in 1958 by Archbishop Joseph Hurley.  When the Diocese of St. Petersburg was created in 1968, Fr. Scully became a priest of the Dicoese of St. Petersburg.

In 2003, he was nominated for and elected to receive the Fr. Luis de Cancer Distinguished Priestly Service Award by his brother priests of the diocese.
