GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Initiation Coordinator plans, organizes, and oversees the faith formation process for adults and children 9+ who want to become Catholic. This role supports the effective implementation of the Parish’s Christian Initiation program, ensuring that candidates receive thoughtful theological instruction, personal spiritual guidance, and a warm integration into parish life.
This is a part-time position averaging 15-20 hours per week. Sunday and evening hours required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize and manage the structure and schedule of the adult initiation program, guided by the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)
- Develop and update curriculum materials
- Coordinate formation sessions, retreats, and liturgical events
- Maintain accurate records of necessary documentation and paperwork
- Facilitate small group sessions and ensure each candidate is paired with a mentor or sponsor as needed
- Work closely with parish leadership, volunteers, and Coordinator of Faith Formation to promote a cohesive formation experience
- Work with the Liturgy Coordinator to plan necessary rites during and outside Sunday Mass
- Promote the Initiate program within the parish through the bulletin, social media, and website
- Office hours as needed
- Other duties as assigned within the parameters of Faith Formation
- Support and assist with parish-wide events as needed
- Assist on rotation with parish staff information table on Sundays

SKILLS
- Must be a practicing Catholic, active in a Catholic parish, and express personal knowledge of the Catholic faith and commitment to Catholic ideals
- Passion for sharing the faith and guiding adults on their faith journey
- Previous experience in faith formation or adult education is preferred
- Familiarity with the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults or a willingness to learn the process
- Ability to work independently
- Collaborative/friendly work style with ability to project professionalism, sincerity, sensitivity, and empathy
- Good organizational skills, be detail-oriented, deadline-aware, persistent, helpful, team-minded, and personable
- Great customer service skills
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Proficiency with computer apps such as Canva, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with Parish Data Systems database and Flocknote
- A bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, or a related field is preferred but not required
- Successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training
