GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Communications Coordinator is responsible for sharing the mission of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in a variety of formats. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for the weekly bulletin, Friday Flocknote, website, social media, producing print materials (such as brochures, booklets, and banners), and other related tasks as needed. The Coordinator is a resource person for all employees and ministry leaders. They maintain the brand of the parish in all communications.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate current methods of communication to assess what to keep, eliminate, or modify.
- Manage the design and distribution of all print and electronic communications including, but not limited to: weekly print bulletins, weekly emails (Flocknote), daily social media posts, brochures, and the parish website.
- Complete and submit the weekly bulletin in a timely manner, ensuring it is proofread by at least one other staff member prior to submission.
- Manage social media presence, including the parish Facebook and Instagram accounts. Create a plan for a minimum number of posts per week on each platform, which will include promoting upcoming events, showcasing parish activities, and highlighting parishioner stories.
- Assist the Parish Leadership Team with all event advertising, as well as promote appropriate events from the Diocese of St. Petersburg and Spirit FM event calendar.
- Create and execute advertisements in the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber Visitor guide as well as Beach Beacon.
- Prepare for and engage in Emergency Communications as needed.
- Attend Staff meetings, Liturgical Committee meetings, and any additional sub-committee meetings pertinent to the role.
- Attend Special Events at the Parish and Diocese to take photos and/or videos for content.
- Organize and maintain parish media archives.
- Attend events within the Diocese and outside of the Diocese that provide value to the role.
- Assist the Safety Team in cooperation with the Parish Leadership Team with the creation of a series of Emergency Preparedness videos.
- Complete the annual financial statement to be published in the bulletin.
- Create and maintain the event calendar on the website.
- Attend major parish events & participate in weekly weekend staff table rotation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Supervisor.
- Support and assist with parish/Diocesan wide events as needed.
COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
The Communications Coordinator is directly accountable to and evaluated by the Director of Stewardship. Other collaborative relationships involve the following offices:
- Diocesan Communications Office
- All staff and ministries of the parish
QUALITIES AND SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a practicing Catholic.
- College Degree (BA/BS preferred) with emphasis on creative, graphic design and/or marketing and communications.
- Knowledge of best practices in the areas of marketing, communications, website management, and design.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent oral, writing, and editing skills with command of the English language (style, usage, grammar, and punctuation).
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with graphic design software such as Microsoft Publisher, Adobe creative products, Canva, etc.
- Ability to collect information and communicate it in a clear way to the proper audience.
- Ability to maintain focus and accomplish tasks effectively in an environment that can be filled with interruptions and distractions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of the position.
- Ability to work in a timely manner and follow up with others.
- Willingness to learn new things and seek assistance when needed.
- Must pass a Level II background screening and take safe environment classes upon hire.
