The Accounting and Finance Office of the Pastoral Center of the Diocese of St. Petersburg has an immediate opening for an experienced Accountant.  This is a full-time position that will report directly to the Controller.  This position will work closely with all members of the Finance Team to ensure that we are accounting for complex transactions appropriately.  The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and analysis skills and a team-player disposition.  Bank reconciliation (including ZBA sweep accounts) and complex investments reconciliation experience is a must.

The Accountant will be responsible for all investment accounting and preparing all investment and bank reconciliations.  This position will also support the Controller with activities related to Estates, Trusts and Endowments, Annuities, Funds Held in Trust and Capital Campaigns.  In addition, this position will perform complex account analyses, prepare and post journal entries and complete other special projects as assigned. 

Attention to detail, a sense of urgency, intellectual curiosity, and deadline oriented, with the ability to switch gears when needed, are all necessary traits to be successful in this role.

Ideally, candidates for this position will have prior Trust Fund, Investment Accounting or Public Accounting experience, be goal-oriented and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team as appropriate.  Candidates must have excellent communication and servant leadership skills. 

The Accountant must also have good working knowledge of accounting for and analyzing activity through an integrated accounting system and the ability and aptitude to work with a variety of software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.  A Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting and at least 5 years of experience in full cycle general accounting or 2 or more years of Public Accounting experience with an external audit focus is desired.
