The goal of the Director of Music Ministry is to develop full, active, conscious, and fruitful participation of the faithful at liturgies and other parish events.
Responsibilities:
- Selecting and performing all music associated with worship, faith formation, and evangelization in the parish,
- Coordinating and staffing all other liturgies with competent musicians,
- Planning the liturgies with the Parish Liturgy Committee,
- Developing and executing on a plan to expand the adult, children, and teen choir membership,
- Providing or arranging for the provision of music at all funerals and weddings,
- Attending parish office team and liturgy ministry meetings,
- Preparing and executing on special seasonal performances as needed.
Quality and Skills:
- Practicing Catholic.
- Capable Organist and Conductor.
- Strong Leadership Skills.
- Considerable working knowledge of music as applied to vocal, choral, and instrumental works.
- Ability to work with staff and other ministries, recruit and work with volunteer choir members, solve problems and to make decisions regarding the parish music program.
- Possess a working knowledge of the guidelines set forth for the proper use of music during liturgies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing, ease in performance, competency in keyboard playing, and the ability to read and interpret musical scores.
- Ability to choose and implement music that is appropriate for all liturgical functions.
The Director of Music must be able to successfully pass a DOSP Level 2 FBI Background Screening and complete online Safe Environment Training prior to employment.
Note: Parish office staff will assist with scheduling FBI Background Screening.
