SSJ Health Foundation (the “Foundation”), a non-profit, has a job opening for its Executive Director, which position is located in Miami, Florida.  The Foundation serves as the fundraising vehicle for St. John Bosco Clinic, Inc. (the “Clinic”), a free clinic located in Miami-Dade County offering primary care services to underserved individuals who meet defined criteria. 

Job Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for the fundraising, administration and operations of the Foundation, for the benefit of the Clinic, and reports to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. The Executive Director will seek opportunities; develop strategies; and identify, cultivate and solicit donors; to ensure a strong base of ongoing financial and philanthropic support. The Executive Director will maintain professional relations with donors, foundations, business entities and other resources, to support existing and future organizational programs and activities of both the Foundation and the Clinic.

This position is responsible for strategic planning and developing the fiscal and operational goals to achieve desired short and long-term outcomes. Initiatives will include major gifts, annual pledges, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns. The Executive Director will function as the lead spokesperson for the Foundation, including occasional media interviews. The position requires the Executive Director to maintain a high level of public visibility; and frequent interaction with funders, the medical community and the community at large, as necessary, to assure the continued and future success of the Clinic.

The Executive Director shall work harmoniously with and collaborate with the Clinic Executive Director to establish program priorities, needs and strategic planning. The Executive Director will be responsible for identifying potential grant sources to support program priorities, preparing and filing grant applications, exploring other funding opportunities, and submitting all requisite reports and ensure compliance with all grant requirements.

The Executive Director shall be responsible for maintaining accurate and current administrative reports, statistical information on all aspects of the organization, including detailed accounting of all donations, grants and gifts received, including pro-bono services. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements through working with the Foundation’s corporate counsel and auditor, and with the Board of Directors to ensure ongoing Board development, recruitment of new Board members, and participation in Committee meetings.

The Executive Director represents the Catholic Church in its health care ministry and shall be committed to represent the Church in all his/her personal and professional interactions.  There is a preference for a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church for this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The applicant must have excellent English language communication skills both in writing and speaking, and must be comfortable with public speaking and media interviews. Command of the Spanish language is beneficial, although not a requirement.

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated success in securing support for organizations, and in cultivating and soliciting donors, both individual and corporate/organizational entities, for charitable purposes. The Executive Director will also have demonstrated grant writing ability and a history of achieving significant funding contributions.


The preferred candidate shall have a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in administration, management, or a related field, with 5+ years’ experience as an Executive Director, Development Director or similar position in a non-profit or public sector organization.  Experience in health care delivery systems is preferred. The Executive Director must have knowledge of financial systems, policy and procedure development, and a strong background in development, administration and management. 

Licenses and Certificates

Admission to the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives (NSFRE) or holding Certification as a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) is desirable.
