St. Lawrence Parish

The Facilities Specialist is responsible for and personally maintains, renovates and sees to the cleanliness, safety and upkeep of the buildings including the physical, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.  Will perform room setups and prepare audio video system for guests and staff.  Will conduct preventative maintenance, safety checks.  May supervise seasonal, temporary or part-time help including volunteers. Must follow up on the performance of contractors and personally perform many maintenance functions per the standard established by the Facilities Manager.
Reports to the Facilities Manager and works collaboratively with all St. Lawrence staff. This is a Full-time, Exempt Hourly Position with Benefits.

Essential Functions:

  • Will maintain all electrical fixtures, switches, fans, vents, and exhaust fans, as well as all exposed plumbing including supply lines, floor drains, toilets, valves and traps.
  • Maintaining all of the buildings, pathways and parking areas in a safe, clean, and orderly manner. May clean mop, vacuum and empty trash. 
  • Keep clean all outside furniture and common areas such as sidewalks, smoking areas, trash receptacles, parking lots and roadways.
  • Perform meeting room set ups.  This includes moving table and chair in and out of storage setting them in positions and layouts described by the Events Manager. Room set ups include audio and video preparations for presentations plus safety checks.
  • Change light bulbs, and air conditioning filters, refill paper and soap products, and perform preventative maintenance on all door and window hardware.
  • Assist janitorial staff will all janitorial functions when needed.  
  • Maintain water features and retention areas.
  • Perform light carpentry work such as building shelves, repairing trim, repairing furniture, assembling kit furniture repairing and building fixtures and fencing. 
  • Follow established guidelines and check list.
  • Maintain a list of projects and tasks that need to be accomplished around the property and be able to share this list.
  • Be present for all Hillsborough County and State of Florida inspections with a positive attitude and non-confrontational manner. The Facilities Specialist will see that all noncompliance items are satisfied.
  • Assist in facility and site security.
  • Assist in our recycling plan.
  • Keep safe all physical aspects of the buildings and grounds, report any unsafe or possible unsafe conditions to the Facilities Manager and post warnings or signs to warn guest of these conditions.
  • Provides other general assistance as needed such hauling and moving items, loading and unload trucks and picking up parts and other equipment as needed.
  • Will occasionally require irregular shifts on occasion such as holidays and weekends.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Experience with building, grounds, and vehicle maintenance is required.
  • Must have basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of all phases of building construction.
  • Ability to diagnose and perform mechanical repairs.
  • Able to work from a ladder, adjust to height and close quarters, withstand heat and cold and have good eye-hand coordination. 
  • Must have knowledge of cleaning products and how and when to use them.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members, and volunteers.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Meets the driving insurability requirements of our insurance carrier.
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be in good physical condition and able to work safely on ladders, and be able to lift sixty pounds, and push and pull heavily loaded carts.
  • Must be able to provide his or her own transportation for job related responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Meets the driving insurability requirements of our insurance carrier.
  • Must have basic computer skills
