GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for various accounting functions of the Pastoral Center Accounting Office. This responsibility extends to all departments, trusts, funds, and corporations for which the accounting is performed by the Pastoral Center Accounting Office, and to other selected Diocesan entities where accounting functions are decentralized. The position also requires other duties as assigned by the Diocesan Controller.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential functions to be performed in accordance with Pastoral Center financial policies and guidelines, and generally accepted accounting principles, include:

  • Recording campaign deposits in the accounting software
  • Accounting for p-card purchases
  • Recording financial activity for Bethany Center
  • Recording financial activity for Calvary and Resurrection cemeteries
  • Remitting sales tax for Bethany Center
  • Backup printing of accounts payable checks
  • Select bank reconciliations
  • Select trial Diocesan trial balance reconciliations
  • Other tasks appointed by the Controller

QUALITIES AND SKILLS:

  • This position requires an advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • This position requires strong professional skills, and the ability to work independently with self-motivation.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited university is preferred.
  • Three years of accounting experience is mandatory.
  • It requires the use of other software technologies such as MS Word and Power Point, and the financial reporting system (SERENIC Navigator)
  • Candidate must successfully pass a Level II FBI Background Screening and complete Safe Environment Training.

COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Diocesan Controller. The position also requires a close collaborative relationship with other Directors and Managers of the Pastoral Center, the Office of Parish & School Accounting, pastors, principals and business managers of Diocesan entities, and the Administrators of other Diocesan entities and programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires a workspace at the Pastoral Center. On occasion attendance may be required at outside meetings and seminars. The scheduled hours of the position are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with one hour unpaid for lunch. Diocesan Policy requires that the successful candidate will be expected to successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training.
