FAQs

What is the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute (LPMI)?

The Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute (LPMI) is a program of Ministry Formation sponsored by the Diocese of St. Petersburg. The aim of the Institute is to assist the laity in the development of the knowledge skills they need for a variety of roles in ministry. The program is designed to enhance personal faith and develop intellectual aptitude to enrich personal ministry through attendance at the four-year program: an informal year of discernment and three years of formal academic training and spiritual growth.
For anyone interested in attending the LPMI Year of Discernment, the registration form and program information can be found on the LPMI web site at Year of Discernment.

Why does the Diocese sponsor the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute (LPMI)?

Our Diocese is blessed with many lay women and men who love God and wish to serve Him. The LPMI program provides an integrated process to equip Catholics by forming them Spiritually, Intellectually, and Pastorally. The Ministry Formation Program offered by the Diocese of St. Petersburg Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute is accredited by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission on Certification and Accreditation.

What are the requirements for acceptance in the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute?

Anyone fully initiated adult (at least 21 years of age) that has been a practicing Catholic for at least two years can attend the Year of Discernment. The 3-year formational cycle requires your pastor’s approval and continued support.
