Dr. Robert P. Iller

Word reached the Chancellor’s Office of the passing of Dr. Robert Paul “Bob” Iler on January 16, 2026, one day short of his 95th birthday, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Dr. Iler was the husband of Mrs. Sharon Iler, former director of the Diocesan Respect Life Office.

Born and raised in St. Petersburg, he had a deep love for his home town. He was a graduate of St. Paul’s Catholic School, St. Petersburg Junior College, and Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta, Georgia. It was at St. Paul’s that he met Sharon O’Brien who became his devoted wife of 73 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert “Paul” and Irma Iler. Left to celebrate his life are his beloved wife, Sharon; his brother, Richard (Sophia); his six children: Steve (Maggie), Katie Bird (Gerry), Eileen (Tom), Mary Tapp (Jim), Chrysa Milholland (Paul), and Tom (Maureen). Bob’s legacy continues through his 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Following dental school, Bob served in the United States Air Force and then moved to St. Petersburg to open his dental practice.  He continued his career by becoming a professor at the University of Florida Graduate Dental School Program, where he shared his vast knowledge and experience.

He was a longtime parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church. and was a proud Eagle Scout and supported scouting for decades.

The funeral liturgy will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 11565 66th Avenue, Seminole, on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 AM.   Rev. Joseph O’Reilly, I.C., will officiate and Rev. John Tapp will concelebrate. The family will receive friends at church starting at 10:00 AM till Mass time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or School.
