MUSIC DIRECTOR POSITION
St. Clement Catholic Church invites applications for a full-time Music Director to lead our bilingual parish music ministry.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Music Director will plan, coordinate, and direct all liturgical music for our English and Spanish-speaking communities, ensuring music is reverent, appropriate, and aligned with Catholic liturgical norms. This role includes directing choirs, recruiting and training musicians and cantors, and fostering active participation in sung prayer throughout our diverse parish community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and select music for all weekend Masses, holy days, and sacramental celebrations in both English and Spanish.
- Lead and conduct adult choirs and develop additional ensembles as needed.
- Recruit, train, and schedule cantors, choir members, and instrumentalists for both language communities.
- Serve as primary musician/accompanist or coordinate coverage for liturgies.
- Manage music ministry operations including music library, budget oversight, and instrument maintenance.
- Diversify parish repertoire with a balance between traditional hymnody, Gregorian chant, contemporary liturgical music, and culturally appropriate selections.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Music, Sacred Music, Liturgical Music, Music Education, or related field.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in piano/keyboard and/or organ.
- Strong understanding of Catholic liturgy, theology, and sacred music documents (GIRM, Roman Missal).
- Experience in Catholic parish or liturgical setting.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holy days as required.
COMPENSATION:
Full-time salaried position with benefits. Additional stipends for weddings, funerals, and Quinceañeras.
COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENT:
- Successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training.
- Comply with all policies of the Diocese and parish leadership, both in person and on social/online.
