Safe Environment education and training programs help clergy, employees, volunteers, parents, children, and youth recognize warning signs of abuse, maintain healthy boundaries, and understand reporting responsibilities.
The Diocese provides ongoing training and renewal programs to foster awareness, prevention, and accountability across all ministries and schools.
Since 2002, the Diocese has provided Safe Environment education for children and youth throughout parish and Catholic school programs.
Safe Environment Program Training
The Safe Environment Program Training is done through Virtus Online, a service of The National Catholic Risk Retention Group. This online system will help walk you through training requirements. Click the button below to be taken to their portal and start your SEP training.
Who Is this Training For?
Clergy
All clergy, deacons, seminarians, and religious are required to take the child safety/vulnerable adult training, this includes temporarily assigned priests and visiting international priests.
Employees
All employees are required to take the child safety/vulnerable adult training as a condition of employment regardless of said access.
Adults
All adults who may have access to and or the supervision of children, youth, and vulnerable adults. This includes volunteers, contractors, vendors, consultants, licensees, Memo of Understanding personnel, state/federal service providers, and others.
Youth
Children and youth throughout parish religious education, Catholic schools, and ministry programs/youth activities.

Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion
The online training module consists of child safety training and vulnerable adult training combined. However, Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion to the Homebound and Pastoral Care Provider (EMHC/PCP) training will no longer be administered by the Safe Environment Program Office.
Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion to the Homebound (EMHC)training will now be performed by the parish homebound ministry leader. Pastoral Care Provider (PCP) training will now be provided by the ministry leader charged with providing pastoral care in your parish.
