The Freedom From Pornography initiative was begun in response to the concern of priests who, in the course of hearing confessions, realized that there was a growing trend of individuals who struggled with pornography and experiencing ill effects in their marriages and relationships. Upon researching the topic, a committee of priests and lay ministry leaders found resources that can assist clergy, lay ministry leaders, spiritual directors and licensed mental health counselors as well as individuals and parents to protect themselves from intrusive online pornography, but also ways to recover from the harm that pornography wrought.

Several events, training programs and Diocesan-wide programs are part of this initiative that seeks to equip the faithful to protect themselves and seek assistance and healing.
