The Second Sunday of Advent – Peace

The Second Sunday centers on peace, symbolized by the second candle of the Advent wreath. John the Baptist emerges in the readings as the “voice crying out in the wilderness,” urging all to prepare the way of the Lord. His message challenges us to make room for Christ by turning away from sin and embracing the peace that only God can give. This week invites us to seek reconciliation—with God, with others, and within our own hearts.

Week One Prayer for Lighting the Advent Wreath Candle

Heavenly Father, as we light the second candle of our Advent wreath, we remember the voice of John the Baptist—calling out in the wilderness, preparing the way of the Lord. Quiet our hearts as we hear his message today. Remove the noise, the hurry, and the burdens we carry, so we may welcome your Son with peace. Lord Jesus, You are the Prince of Peace. Help us turn away from sin and anything that keeps us from You. Heal division in our families, our communities, and within our own hearts. Show us where we need reconciliation, and give us the courage to seek forgiveness and to offer it freely. As this candle brightens our home, may Your peace shine through us to others. Amen.
