Today is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception! It is a holy day of obligation. Holy Lord, grant me the grace to be your vessel of love in my family and to do Your will in all things, like our Blessed Mother.  Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us.

In the Christmas rush, we may forget for whom we prepare or why we prepare. The Advent candles remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. Each Sunday of Advent, we light another candle as we get closer and closer to Christmas, the moment Jesus brought light into our darkness.

This celebration commemorates the appearance of Mary, our Blessed Mother, to the Mexican indigenous man, Juan Diego in 1531. She is the Patroness of the Americas and the Pro-Life movement.

December 14 | Memorial of Saint John of the Cross, Priest and Doctor of the Church

St. John of the Cross was a great saint who was a reformer, a mystic, and one of the great Spanish poets. He has inspired many other holy men and women to pursue God into the mysterious heights and depths of divine love.

Happy Third Sunday of Advent or Gaudete Sunday! Today, the rose candle is lit on the Advent wreath. It’s a day of rejoicing, because we are closer to Christmas!
