Additional Information:
This event is a celebration of the Catholic Church’s Jubilee Year of Hope. Through both the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, parishioners across the Diocese of St. Petersburg are working to make God’s mercy manifest within our communities. The goal is to be a sign of hope for our brothers and sisters who experience hardships. These Works of Mercy are tangible and measurable; no act is too large or too small, especially when done with great love. Empowered by the message of the Gospel, the Diocese is inviting people to take part in the challenge by collectively completing 1,000,000 works of mercy within this Jubilee Year.
Works of Mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his or her spiritual and bodily necessities. The Corporal Works of Mercy are found in the teachings of Jesus and give us a model for how we should treat all others, as if they were Christ in disguise. The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history.
