GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Rooted in the mission of the Catholic Church and the parish community of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the Director of Ministry and Evangelization provides pastoral leadership, vision, and oversight for the parish’s evangelization, liturgical life, faith formation, and outreach ministries. Working collaboratively with the Pastor, parish staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers, this position fosters a culture of missionary discipleship by accompanying parishioners in their faith journey and creating opportunities for spiritual growth, evangelization, sacramental preparation, community outreach, and active participation in parish life.

This position serves as a key leader in advancing the parish mission through dynamic ministry leadership, intentional discipleship, and engagement of parishioners of all ages and cultures. Given the diverse nature of the parish community, this position must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish and able to minister effectively within multicultural environments.

I. Parish Evangelization & Pastoral Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with the Pastor in developing and implementing the parish vision for evangelization and missionary discipleship.
  • Foster a welcoming parish culture that encourages spiritual growth, active participation, and deeper engagement in the life of the Church.
  • Develop strategies to invite inactive Catholics, new parishioners, and the broader community into parish life.
  • Support parish ministries in aligning their efforts with the mission and pastoral priorities of the parish.
  • Assist in identifying, recruiting, forming, and mentoring parish ministry leaders and volunteers.
  • Promote stewardship, discipleship, and servant leadership throughout parish ministries.
  • Expand current parish ministries and work with the pastor in implementing ministries.

II. Ministry Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Provide direct leadership, supervision, support, and evaluation for:
    • Associate Director of Youth Faith Formation
    • Coordinator of Outreach Ministries
    • Liturgy Coordinator
  • Encourage collaboration and communication among ministries to strengthen parish unity and mission effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular ministry planning meetings and assist in setting annual ministry goals and objectives.
  • Provide pastoral accompaniment and leadership development to ministry staff and volunteers.

III. Adult Faith Formation & Evangelization

  • Oversee and coordinate all adult faith formation initiatives within the parish.
  • Develop and or accompany opportunities for ongoing catechesis and spiritual growth, including:
    • Bible studies
    • Small faith-sharing groups
    • Retreats and parish missions
    • Workshops and speaker series
    • Sacramental preparation support
    • OCIA/RCIA collaboration
  • Promote evangelization efforts that help parishioners grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Ensure all catechetical and evangelization efforts remain faithful to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.

IV. Liturgy & Parish Life Support

  • Collaborate with the Liturgy Coordinator and clergy to support meaningful and reverent liturgical celebrations.
  • Assist in coordinating parish-wide liturgical seasons, sacramental celebrations, and special parish events.
  • Promote active participation in liturgical ministries and parish devotional life.
  • Support hospitality and parish engagement initiatives that strengthen community life.

V. Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Support and strengthen parish outreach ministries serving individuals and families in need.
  • Encourage parish involvement in charitable outreach, social ministry, and community engagement efforts.
  • Help create opportunities for parishioners to live out the Gospel through service and missionary outreach.
  • Foster culturally inclusive ministry initiatives that reflect the diversity of the parish community.

VI. Administration & Operations

  • Develop and manage ministry-related budgets in collaboration with parish administration.
  • Maintain accurate ministry records, reports, calendars, and communication plans.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications to utilize technology, social media, and parish communication platforms to promote evangelization and parish engagement.
  • Participate actively in parish staff meetings, pastoral planning, and diocesan gatherings as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, safe environment requirements, and parish procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time position requiring flexibility, including evenings and weekends based on parish ministry needs and liturgical celebrations.
  • Active participation in parish events, liturgies, retreats, and ministry activities is expected.
  • Position may require occasional travel for diocesan meetings, trainings, and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS

  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church who demonstrates a commitment to the teachings, mission, and sacramental life of the Catholic Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies, or related field required. Master’s degree desirable.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required.
  • Minimum of five years of ministry leadership experience within a Catholic parish, diocesan, or ministry setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic theology, evangelization, catechesis, and pastoral ministry.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners of diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound pastoral judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, parish database systems, social media, and communication platforms.
  • Must successfully complete all diocesan safe environment and background screening requirements.
