POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the total religious education program of the parish for adults (OCIA), youth and children as designated by the Pastor, and development of a youth group.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a representative of the pastor, the DRE implements the parish religious program in accordance with the parish mission statement and goals. The DRE manages programs content and budget; coordinates with other parish ministries and activities; reports to pastor.

  • Prepare those for the Sacrament of Baptism.
  • Articulates a vision of catechesis and catechetical process based on the major catechetical documents of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Review, evaluate and develop programs, mission statements, long and short-range goals and objectives with the pastor.
  • Provide an Academic schedule to the pastor detailing the Catechetical topics and dates to be presented.
  • Apply appropriate principles of human development, especially faith and moral within a catechetical program.
  • Utilize appropriate methodologies for adults (OCIA) and child centered learning.
  • Children in faith formation should know the four pillars for passing on the faith:
    • Profession of Faith (Creed).
    • The Seven Sacraments.
    • Life in Christ (Morality).
    • Christian Prayer (Catholic).
  • Teach the following Precepts of the Catholic Church:
    • Attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation
    • Confession of serious sin at least once a year
    • Reception of Holy Communion at least once a year during the Easter season
    • Observance of the days of fast and abstinence
    • Providing for the needs of the Church
  • Parents must know and should follow the Precepts of the Catholic Church; of special importance is their regular Mass Attendance with their children.
  • The parents play an essential role in the family as the domestic church. They must help their children to not only learn the faith but live it. Therefore, a parent or parents or guardian or guardians must be living examples of their Catholic faith for their child or children.
  • Use of media and technology for effective program implementation which is used in faith formation.
  • Incorporate service opportunities and reflections on these experiences in a catechetical program for adults (OCIA), adolescents and children.
  • Provide opportunities for Catholic prayer, personal spiritual development and communal worship.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate records on students, families, catechists, and other participants.

YOUTH MINISTRY:

  • Develop a youth group composed of elementary and middle school.
  • Meet once a month to help them grow in a relationship with God and each other.
  • Develop and plan enjoyable events that are fun for our parish teens.
  • Manage and implement safe environment guidelines for teens and volunteers.
  • Catholic VBS.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic with a commitment to her or his own faith life.
  • A knowledge of Scripture, the Catechism, and Church documents.
  • Familiar with Church history, the stories of the saints and martyrs, Mariology.
  • Experience in teaching the Catholic faith to adults, youth, and children.
  • Able to communicate with all age groups, from varying cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Skilled organizer and overseer of catechetical programs that incorporate volunteer contributions.
  • Sensitive to controversial issues and able to respond according to Catholic teaching.
  • Familiar with the use of media and technology for effective program implementation.
  • Must complete Safe Environment Training and successfully pass FDLE Level II Background Screening.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

An undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited university is preferred.
