GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  The Faith Formation Coordinator plans, organizes, and oversees the faith formation process for Catholic children in the parish. This role supports the effective implementation of the Parish’s formation program, ensuring that children receive thoughtful theological instruction, personal spiritual guidance, and a warm integration into parish life.

This is a part-time position averaging 15-20 hours per week. Sunday and evening hours required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the implementation of catechesis for various age levels of the parish, according to the Faith Formation Guidelines of the Catholic Diocese of Florida
  • Select and approve appropriate catechetical materials based on the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops and Diocesan guidelines
  • Ensure a pastoral approach for Faith Formation classes & activity calendars
  • Set goals and grade-level expectations for the Faith Formation Program
  • Recruit and train volunteer catechists, and provide ongoing formation
  • Assure volunteers’ files are complete (harassment forms, background check, Safe Environment) in coordination with Parish Safe Environment coordinator.
  • Work with the Pastor in coordinating Sacrament Preparation for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation
    • Oversee sacrament preparation program in its entirety: Parent meetings, preparation sessions, retreat, rehearsal, and the celebration of the sacrament
  • Support Youth Ministry middle school formation program (EDGE) as needed (recruitment, training, parents’ meetings, catechist meetings, orientation, retreats, etc.)
  • Prepare weekly bulletin articles & appropriate material for church website in timely manner
  • Attend staff and Diocesan meetings, and continue professional formation through training and conferences as deemed appropriate to this position
  • Understand and abide by the Faith Formation budget
  • Perform annual review of Catechist Handbook, Parent Handbook, Sacrament Handbooks
  • Oversee A.C.R.E. testing for Grades 5
  • Office hours as needed
  • Other duties as assigned within the parameters of Faith Formation
  • Support and assist with parish-wide events as needed
  • Assist on rotation with parish staff information table on Sundays

SKILLS

  • Must be a practicing Catholic, active in a Catholic parish, and express personal knowledge of the Catholic faith and commitment to Catholic ideals
  • Collaborative/friendly work style with ability to project professionalism and sincerity
  • Possess good organizational skills, be detail-oriented, deadline-aware, persistent, helpful, team-minded, and personable
  • Experience with coordinating & empowering volunteers
  • Demonstrate great customer service skills
  • Be able to work nights and weekends
  • Be proficient with computer apps such as Canva, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with Parish Data Systems database and Flocknote
  • A bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, or a related field is preferred but not required
  • 2 years of experience as a catechist in a Catholic parish or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training
