GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Pastor and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Communication Specialist is responsible for daily office duties. greeting visitors, answering the phone, and helping steer them to the proper person. Confidentiality is of utmost importance and a positive, compassionate, and friendly attitude with and ability to work well with others. The Communication Specialist must be a natural storyteller that is passionate about creating content; a person that engages empathy, inspires connection and is able to work with a small staff as we discover and promote the unique emerging story of the parish.
- Works with the parish staff, to discover and to assist in the daily parish life and ministry the front office.
- Using tools such as social media, email, our website, and other digital and traditional media tools to be implemented to bring the Gospel message to those whom we are sent.
- Experience and training is needed in order to create and manage excellent content.
- Work with a small parish team — in order that we may grow in alignment with our parish mission to be “Invitational, Formational, Formation, Sacramental” and to Execute a results-driven social media strategy in alignment with an overall communication strategy.
- Write and prepare internal and external communications to support the various ministries of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
- Write clear, concise, grammatically correct messages that are consistent with the values and the culture of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
- Write and prepare branded email and texting campaigns to support the overall communications strategy. Receive parish office visitors; address their inquiries; direct or refer as appropriate.
- Answer the telephone when a receptionist is unavailable.
- Open and close the Office. Work hours will be Monday- Thursday from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm and Fridays from 8:30 am until noon.
- Gather, review, and prepare bulletin submissions.
- Prepare and print liturgical worship aids, including weekends, funerals, feast days.
- Enter sacramental records in parish record books, preparing and mailing certificates.
- Coordinate with other parishes for sacramental records; prepares duplicate certificates as requested.
- Coordinates parishioner registration process: updates the parish database as needed.
- Maintains the parish offering envelope system.
- Distributes mail and other related material.
- Assist with parish bulk mailings.
- Maintains office supply inventory, working with supervisor to order office supplies when necessary
- Other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Supervisor
PARISH EVENTS
Support and assist with parish/Diocesan wide events as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS
- Must be an active member of a Catholic community to express personal knowledge of the Catholic faith and commitment to Catholic ideals.
- Collaborate with other members of the Parish Office Team to source appropriate assets that create a compelling and cohesive social media presence.
- Monitor and maintain social media channels, driving awareness, audience growth, reach and engagement. Moderate and respond to all user-generated content to drive engagement and maintain community standards.
- Continuously improve our social media presence by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data and metrics, insights, and best practices, and then acting on the information.
- Ability to successfully relate to people of all backgrounds, cultures and ages – in order to tell our story. Ability to clarify our parish mission and identity – in alignment with the Diocese of St. Petersburg and the overall mission of the Catholic Church.
- Awareness of the latest social media trends; this field requires a person to be a lifelong learner, with an interest to grow in one’s expertise.
- Proficiency needed in database management and media scheduling.
- Ability to work with creation tools and content management such as WordPress, Publisher, Canva, etc.
- Competency in copywriting, editing, social media marketing and analytics.
- Responsible for completing own work on-time and with excellence.
- Generate, edit, publish, and share daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to act.
- Successfully pass a level Il (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training
