Position Overview
The Communications Coordinator will create, co-ordinate and broadcast information in a variety of formats to communicate the mission and programs of St Lawrence Catholic Parish and School to internal and external audiences. Formats will include the weekly printed bulletin, electronic newsletters, parish or school e-blasts, video and other communication media. The Communications Coordinator maintains the church and school websites along with social media sites. The Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Development Director and work alongside them.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the point of contact for the media
- Work with Pastor and all staff/clergy to keep the congregation fully informed about pertinent events and news
- Maintain Church and School websites and social media accounts
- Assist school Parents Club with information dissemination
- Create and manage general email blasts to parishioners and school families as required
- Create and/or manage the creation of videos for communication/promotion of parish and school events.
- Create weekly parish bulletins
- Write, edit, and distribute print and online communications in a timely, accurate manner consistent with St Lawrence’s vision and branding; This includes writing stories, assigning stories to volunteers, editing, assigning or taking photographs, producing graphic design and layout, proof-reading, and coordinating printing and/or distribution for:
- Bulletin announcement inserts, published weekly and for special services
- Miscellaneous invitations, brochures, flyers, etc.
- Act as a gateway, consultant, and quality control check on all church communication products, including those produced within individual ministries of the church
- Coordinate the print and online production with our vendor. Evaluate emerging communications options.
- Maintain files of publications and a photo library for use in publications.
- Coordinate other special projects and perform other duties as directed.
Qualities and Skills:
- Must be an active, practicing Catholic able to express personal knowledge of the Catholic faith and commitment to Catholic ideals.
- College Degree with emphasis on creative, graphic design and/or marketing/communications
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) Required
- Knowledge of best practices in the areas of marketing and communications; website management and design
- Willingness to learn new things and seek knowledge when confronted with new challenges
- Ability to maintain focus and accomplish tasks effectively in an environment that can be filled with interruptions and distractions
