General Description

St. Jerome Catholic Church is seeking a Coordinator of Youth Ministry, with an understanding in how to plan and implement a comprehensive approach to youth ministry as outlined in the USCCB document “Renewing the Vision”, will be asked to develop a new youth ministry program within the parish.  The Coordinator of Youth Ministry (CYM) will provide vision, leadership, and coordination for the parish’s efforts in establishing ministry to young people from 6th through 12th grades.  The position will require building a comprehensive middle school and high school program. In addition, the CYM will support the Youth Confirmation program.  The position is full-time, exempt with benefits. The CYM will have an understanding and will have some experience/formal training in Youth Ministry.  Applicant must be a practicing Catholic and a self-starter.

Essential Functions:

Key functions are leading the programing and administration of all High School and Middle School Youth Ministry parish-based activities. This would include, but not be limited to:

  • Coordinates all programing for Middle School and High School Events. (e.g., catechesis, retreats, service, socials and spiritual) with the goal of forming disciples for Christ.
  • Supports and collaborates with Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in preparation and reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation for youth.
  • Collaborate with OCIA/OCIC Director and Sacramental Prep of Middle School/High School.
  • Develop an ongoing and sustainable Middle School and High School Ministry program geared towards making disciples.
  • Build, form, and actively engage in relational ministry opportunities with youth, parents, and families in the parish and outside the parish.
  • Recruits, directs, and trains a volunteer Core Team to serve this growing ministry.
  • Recruits, forms, and develops youth peer ministry leaders to evangelize.
  • Engages all parish youth in encounter-based ministry programs, which may include but is not limited to, seasonal retreats, service opportunities, etc.
  • Annual large group retreat experiences include Catholic Youth Camps, March for Life, Good Samaritan Project, etc.
  • Creation of promotional material and media for Youth Ministry events, utilizing Constant Contact eBlasts, bulletin items, and other social media outlets.

Qualities and Skills:

  • Works as part of a parish staff team to minister to the community.
  • Reaches out to surrounding schools to be a resource, if needed, for their students.
  • Fosters interaction with the parish coordinators of youth and young adult ministry from surrounding parishes.
  • Collaborates with the Diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to receive training and resources, in addition to participating in various retreats and activities offered to youth ministers and their youth ministry programs.
  • Participates in appropriate professional organizations relating to youth ministry, including The National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministers (NFCYM), and other associations with a Catholic ministerial and/or professional mission to serve youth.
  • Must be proficient in the use of social networking for professional and ministerial purposes. Must agree to and adhere to the diocesan policy for social networking.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in theology or related field preferred but not required.
  • 2 years experience (volunteer or paid) working within youth ministry preferred.
  • Fully initiated, practicing Roman Catholic.
  • A strong understanding and ability to articulate the Catholic faith to youth.
  • Interact with people as an administrator, leader, and a pastoral care provider.
  • The ability to recruit and lead teams of volunteers.
  • Facilitate work in team situations.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of social media (i.e. Instagram, YouTube).
  • Fiscally responsible and ability to manage the annual budget for Youth Ministry.

St. Jerome Catholic Church is in Largo, Florida, and is located minutes from Indian Rocks Beach. St. Jerome parish covers an area of west mid-Central Pinellas County with approximately 1,700 registered families and is actively seeking ways to meet the various spiritual and physical needs of the youth of our parish.

Candidate must successfully pass a Level II FBI criminal history background screening and complete Safe Environment Training.
