Position Summary
The Director of Faith Formation (DFF) is a key leadership role within the parish and is responsible for the design, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive faith formation program for children and youth (Kindergarten through Grade 12). Under the direction of the Pastor, the DFF ensures that all catechetical efforts reflect the mission an teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and support the spiritual growth and sacramental preparation of parish families.
As a representative of the Catholic Church, the DFF is expected to model a life of Christian discipleship and uphold the moral and doctrinal teachings of the Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive, sequential catechetical program for K–12 students based on Church teachings and Diocesan standards.
- Oversees sacramental preparation programs for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation, engaging parents through meetings and family-based faith events.
- Coordinates the creation and dissemination of calendars, handbooks, communications, and promotional materials for students, families, and catechists.
- Plans seasonal liturgical events and parish-wide faith-based activities that celebrate the liturgical year.
Administration and Evaluation
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and supports catechists and volunteers.
- Selects and evaluates catechetical materials in consultation with diocesan guidelines.
- Prepares and manages the department’s annual budget in coordination with the Parish Administrator.
- Submits timely reports to the Pastor and Diocesan offices as required.
- Maintains accurate records of student enrollment, sacramental preparation, attendance, and volunteer compliance.
Compliance and Safe Environment
- Coordinates all aspects of the Diocesan Safe Environment Program, including background checks, fingerprinting, volunteer file maintenance, and training.
- Ensures all faith formation programs align with diocesan policies and child protection guidelines.
Parish Involvement
- Actively collaborates with parish staff to integrate catechetical goals with the broader mission of the parish.
- Attends parish staff meetings and diocesan workshops, training sessions, and catechetical conferences as required.
- Participates in weekend Masses and other parish events as a visible presence of leadership and support.
Qualifications and Requirements
Spiritual & Personal
- Practicing Roman Catholic in full sacramental communion with the Church.
- Strong sense of vocation in catechetical ministry and parish life.
- Exhibits maturity, integrity, and a commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church.
Professional Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead, delegate, motivate, and collaborate effectively.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ParishSoft or related faith formation management systems.
Educational & Professional Background
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious education, pastoral ministry, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree or Master Catechist certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Catholic religious education or parish ministry preferred.
- Completion of diocesan Safe Environment Training and successful background check required.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position: includes evening and weekend work as required by program needs.
- Office space, phone, computer, and supplies will be provided.
- Must be able to occasionally lift/move materials up to 40 lbs.
- Physical demands include frequent sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and arms.
