Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Location: Saint Cecelia Catholic Church, Clearwater, Florida
Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Reports To: Maintenance Director or Pastor
Position Summary:
Saint Cecelia Catholic Church is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Technician to oversee the day-to-day maintenance and custodial operations of the church buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Technician ensures that parish facilities are safe, clean, and properly maintained to support the worship, ministry, and community life of the parish.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform general maintenance and repairs of church buildings, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify and resolve issues promptly.
- Schedule and oversee service providers for specialized maintenance or repairs when necessary.
- Maintain and troubleshoot church appliances, lighting, and mechanical systems.
Custodial Duties
- Maintain cleanliness of the church, parish hall, offices, classrooms, restrooms, and other facilities.
- Set up and clean spaces for Masses, meetings, events, and sacraments (e.g., weddings, funerals).
- Empty trash, sweep/mop floors, clean restrooms, and refill supplies as needed.
Groundskeeping
- Perform seasonal landscaping: mowing, weeding, pruning, and watering
- Maintain outdoor features such as signage, parking lots, fences, and playgrounds.
Safety & Security
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and Diocesan maintenance protocols.
- Monitor and maintain fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and emergency exits.
- Secure buildings at the end of the day and monitor for any security concerns.
Inventory & Supplies
- Maintain the stock of cleaning and maintenance supplies, reorder when necessary.
- Keep maintenance tools and equipment organized and in good condition.
Event Support
- Assist with set-up and tear-down for parish events, including moving furniture, audio/visual setup, and cleaning before and after.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training in building trades a plus.
- 3+ years’ experience in facility maintenance, preferably in a church, school, or nonprofit environment.
- Knowledge of general maintenance practices, including plumbing, electrical, and custodial services.
- Ability to operate standard maintenance equipment and tools safely.
- Must be physically capable of lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods, climbing ladders, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle emergencies and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church; must respect the sacred nature of church spaces and confidentiality.
Additional Information:
- Hours: Full-time (may include occasional evening/weekend hours to accommodate events or emergencies).
- All candidates for employment must successfully complete a FDLE Level II Criminal Background screening and meet the minimum Standards of Moral Conduct of the Diocese, as well as complete Safe Environment training, prior to employment.
- Valid Driver’s License: Preferred depending on transportation responsibilities.
