St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Clearwater, is seeking a full-time Music Director. The Music Director will support the Gospel message and Catholic identity through song and challenge the assembly to live it more fully. The director should build and sustain congregational song at the Parish’s weekend liturgies, Holy Days and special events. This is a salaried position under the supervision of the Pastor.

The applicant should have a strong understanding of Catholic liturgy, strong music reading skills and both organ and piano proficiency. We offer a diverse music ministry with Cantors, small ensembles and a traditional choir.

The applicant will also be evaluated on musical talent, education, experience, and years of service. A collegiate music degree is preferred but not required. Additional stipends are provided for both funerals and weddings.

Weekend Liturgies:

  • Saturday: 4PM Traditional with a Cantor or small ensemble
  • Sunday: 7AM Traditional with a Cantor (6:30AM rehearsal)
  • 9AM Contemporary with an ensemble (8:15AM rehearsal)
  • 11AM Traditional with a Choir (10:30AM rehearsal)
  • 6PM Contemporary with an ensemble (5PM rehearsal)
  • Choir Rehearsal: Thursday, 7PM

Professional Qualifications:

  • Skill and experience in playing the organ and piano, choir direction, and music selection
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgy
  • Dedication to and experience with growing a congregational music ministry, including working with various choirs, Cantors and volunteer musicians
  • Strong sense of collaboration and communication with staff and parishioners
  • Organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong computer skills including Word and PowerPoint

Job Duties:

  • Provide and facilitate organ, piano, choral, instrumental, and/or other appropriate music at principal liturgies of the church, including Saturdays/Sundays, Holy Days of obligation, weddings, funerals, special services, and occasional concerts/special events.
  • Select all music for worship
  • Develop music program with a sense of community and ministry, with the choir musicians and congregation.
  • Facilitate a culture of congregational singing and musical participation
  • Recommend and oversee maintenance and tuning of all church-owned musical instruments (piano and organ), projection, and sound system.
  • Maintain and update the parish music library, including management of subscriptions, licenses, & copyrights.
  • Serve as a member of the Liturgy Committee
  • Complete all diocesan requirements for employment. Candidate must successfully pass a Level II FBI Background Screening and complete Safe Environment Training prior to employment.
  • Oversee communication of events in the bulletin and other parish communications such as Flocknote.
  • Collaborate with the Pastor and Director of Parish Operations in planning, preparing, and adhering to an annual budget for music ministry in the parish.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally regarding music with clergy, parish staff, music ministry participants, parishioners, and families seeking funerals and weddings.
  • Provide paperwork with selections of music for weddings and funerals
  • Direct the adult choir; provide special events to build participation
  • Encourage Cantor formation, have periodic Cantor workshops, manage schedules and rehearsals
  • Manage PowerPoint files for each Mass
  • Manage Parish Announcements for each weekend
  • Schedule AV Volunteers for each Mass
  • Record and upload the streamed Mass on Saturday afternoon.

Candidate must successfully complete a Level II FBI background screening and attend Safe Environment Training.
