Position Summary
St. Paul’s Church, St. Petersburg, seeks to fill the position of Parish Outreach Minister. The principal duty of this person is to provide a compassionate pastoral presence to parishioners during times of need, particularly in moments of loss, illness, aging, and life transition. The Parish Outreach Minister will also serve as a member of the church office staff, working as a team with other employees to receive visitors to the church office, answer phone inquiries, and assist in other office duties as needed. The position is full-time with benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating Funeral liturgies
- o Handle initial intake of requests for funeral services
- o Oversee funeral calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts
- o Coordinate with director of facilities, organist, sacristans, and other personnel involved with the funeral liturgy
- o Meet with the grieving family to plan the liturgy
- o Attend funeral liturgies to assist the family
- o Handle requests for pre-planning of funeral liturgies
- o Follow-up with families after funeral services
- Coordinating Grief Support Ministry
- o Serve as liaison for the parish’s Grief Support Group
- o Coordinate and attend monthly grief group meetings
- Coordinating Pastoral Care of the sick
- o Train Eucharistic Ministers (EM) for the homebound
- o Ensure safe environment training has been completed by all EM’s.
- o Coordinate priests’ visits and EM visits to the homebound
- o Organize delivery of Christmas and Easter flowers to homebound parishioners
- o Provide ongoing pastoral communication with the homebound
- o Maintain records of EM visits to the homebound
- Coordination with parish’s Young-at-Heart Seniors Group
- o Work as a liaison between this group and the parish office
- o Meet regularly with senior parishioners to plan spiritual, educational, and social activities
- o Foster fellowship, faith sharing, and community among senior members
- o Coordinate speakers, prayer services, and seasonal gatherings
- o Assist the office staff with answering phones, greeting visitors to church office, and other office duties as may be needed
Qualifications
- Applicant must be a practicing Catholic in full sacramental communion with the Church
- A strong sense of mission and desire to serve the Church and build up the parish communion
- Ability to collaborate effectively
- Strong organization skills, with attention to detail
- Familiarity with computers and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Completion of diocesan Safe Environment Training and a successful Level II background screening
- Willingness to work occasionally in the evening or on weekends, as may be necessary
- Committed to confidentiality and professional pastoral boundaries
