GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for the effective preparation, coordination and execution of liturgical celebrations at St. John Vianney Catholic Church under the guidance of the pastor. They also coordinate the liturgical ministries of readers, altar servers, volunteer sacristans, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and oversee the set up and clean up for daily & Sunday Mass and other liturgical celebrations
  • Ensure all vestments (priests, deacons, & altar servers) and sacramental linens are properly maintained and cleaned
  • Assist celebrant and visiting priests with any last-minute preparations or questions
  • Ensure that liturgical events (including special activities taking place during or after Mass) are included in the parish calendar
  • Communicate liturgy information to office staff, liturgy committee, and appropriate volunteers
  • Recruit and train liturgical ministry volunteers (readers, altar servers, volunteer sacristans, and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion)
  • Coordinate the scheduling of liturgical ministries through Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP) for all liturgies including Mass on Sundays, Weekdays, and Holy Days of Obligation, and other sacramental celebrations
  • Recommend appropriate volunteers for liturgical ministries and provide list to pastor for approval
  • Engage and foster personal relationships with liturgical ministry volunteers to ensure proper arrival and preparation
  • Ensure a sacristan is assigned to all masses (including weddings, funerals, and special liturgies)
  • Keep track of all liturgical supplies, inventory, orders, and invoicing
  • Work with Parish Office Staff to order supplies
  • Keep sacristy and supply room organized and tidy
  • Oversee liturgical environment and Martha’s Helpers volunteers
  • Oversee the changing of missalettes annually
  • Plan and help lead annual liturgical ministry volunteer meeting
  • Collaborate with the pastor to plan and lead monthly Liturgy Committee Meetings
  • Attend staff meetings, appropriate diocesan meetings, and continue professional formation through training, conferences, etc
  • Attend major parish events & participate in weekly weekend staff information table rotation
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor or Supervisor
  • Support and assist with parish/Diocesan wide events as needed

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a practicing Catholic striving to live out the Catholic faith, and be familiar with the life of the parish
  • Show reverence for the sacred liturgy and sacred space
  • Have an openness to learning liturgical principles, norms, and rubrics, especially the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, the Order of Christian Funerals, and the Order of Matrimony
  • Be organized, detail-oriented, deadline-aware, persistent, helpful, and team-minded
  • Be able to work collaboratively with a friendly and professional disposition in the spirit of radical hospitality and attention to detail
  • Exhibit strong communication skills (especially written)
  • Must be a proactive self-starter who can plan ahead while managing current tasks
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work with parishioners during emotional moments (e.g., funerals, weddings) with tact, compassion, and discretion
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing liturgical needs, prioritize effectively, and communicate with calm and good humor
  • Successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training
