The Diaconate Office has received word of the passing of Mrs. Julie Alvarez, 77, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.  She is the wife of Deacon John Alvarez, of Espiritu Santo Parish, Safety Harbor, and former Director of the Diaconate.  Her funeral was held on January 18, 2024 at Espiritu Santo Parish.

Mrs. Alvarez was born in New York City and met her best friend and husband of 54 years, John, in Elementary school.  They went on to have two beautiful girls who blessed them with four grandchildren. Julie graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in Education and taught for 30 years. Julie’s pride was in her students and family, with whom she shared her passion for learning and caring for others. She spent her free time volunteering for the Catholic Church, dancing in the living room, and making everybody else’s life a little easier and brighter. Her kind and gentle spirit lives on.

Julie is survived by her husband John, daughters Jessemyn (Vincent) Giovenco, Jaqueline (Jeff) Petersen and grandchildren Michael, Olivia, Sari and Mya.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society.
