Reverend James Maurice Cottrell

Reverend James Maurice Cottrell was born in Cadillac, MI on March 4, 1931 to Cecil and Emma Cottrell. He died at home on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 86 after a long battle with cancer. He enjoyed the company of his two brothers, Tom and Peter, and his sisters Virginia (predeceased) and Bernadette (predeceased).

Fr. Jim was a priest of the Diocese of St. Petersburg, FL and pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, FL for 10 years. He also served at Holy Cross, Holy Family in St. Petersburg, and St. Charles Borromeo Church in Port Charlotte, FL. When Fr. Jim retired, he moved to Gainesville, FL to care for his widowed mother, Emma.

Mass of Christian burial and funeral March 24, St. Madeleine Catholic Church, 17155 NW US Hwy 441, High Springs, FL at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Madeleine Catholic Church “Faith and Vision” campaign.

Update March 30, 2017:
A Memorial Mass for Father Cottrell will be held on Wednesday, April 26th, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 550 U.S. Highway 41 South, Inverness.  Priests who wish to concelebrate are asked to bring an alb and white stole.

In addition, he will be remembered at the next Month’s Mind Mass, on Saturday, April 29th, 10:00 a.m., at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5233 118th Avenue North, Clearwater, where his name will be inscribed in the cemetery’s cenotaph.

Please keep Father Cottrell’s brothers, Tom and Peter, his family members and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
