The Chancellor’s Office received word that Reverend Karl Aloysius Aschmann, C.Ss.R., 97, a retired member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists), passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020, while under Hospice care in Palm Coast, Florida.

Father Aschmann was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He made his profession with the Redemptorists in 1945 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Congregation on June 18, 1950. During his 70 years of priestly ministry, he served for 35 years as a missionary in Paraguay, during which time he built three churches, as well as a parish center and a high school.
After a study sabbatical in Ireland, Father Aschmann returned to the U.S. He came to the Diocese of St. Petersburg in 1987, where he served as Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Tampa for nine years. After his departure from St. Joseph in 1996, he was transferred to North Carolina, where he served as Pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Kannapolis, from 1996 to 2005. In 2005, Father Aschmann returned to Florida, where he resided and ministered at St. Alphonsus Villa until his death.

A Funeral Mass was held on September 29, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, followed by burial in Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, Edgewater, Florida.
