Rev. Mario Marzocchi, S.S.S.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Reverend Mario Marzocchi, S.S.S., 84, a retired priest of the Congregation of the Most Blessed Sacrament. He passed away in the Lord at Regina Health Center, Richfield, Ohio on Friday, June 26, 2020, following a brief illness.

Father Marzocchi, was born in New York City. He was named “Thomas Anthony Marzocchi” at birth but took the name “Mario” when entering religious life in 1961. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 23, 1984.

In the course of his 36 years of priestly ministry, Father Marzocchi served as a teacher at Saint Jean Baptiste High School, in New York City. He was later appointed as the first Director of the New York Archdiocesan Catechetical Office under Cardinals Terence Cooke and John O’Connor. In addition, he served as Pastor of St. Andrew and Saint Jean Baptiste Parishes in New York, and subsequently at St. Paschal Baylon Parish, Highland Heights, Ohio.

During his time in the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Father Marzocchi served as Parochial Vicar of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Holiday, beginning in 2003, when the parish was first entrusted to the Congregation of the Most Blessed Sacrament. He continued as Parochial Vicar until January 2008, when he was temporarily named as the parish’s Parochial Administrator, an assignment he held until July 2009, when he was transferred to a parish in San Antonio, Texas.

All funeral services will be held at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church, Highland Heights, Ohio. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, with a Mass of Christian Burial being held on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at 10:30 a.m.Please keep Father Marzocchi’s surviving family members and his confreres in your kind thoughts and prayers, during this time.
