Rev. Msgr. Richard Cahill ~ Update

The Chancellor’s Office was informed of the death of Monsignor Richard Cahill, 92, a retired priest of the Diocese of Buffalo, early Saturday morning, June 4, 2022, following a recent hospitalization at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater.  He was ordained in 1958.

After his retirement, Monsignor Cahill, affectionately known as “Father Dick,” moved to the Diocese of St. Petersburg and resided in Clearwater since the early 2000s.  He provided assistance to St. Justin, Martyr Parish, Seminole, for the past 22 years and was known for his perseverance in celebrating Mass and supplying other sacramental ministries with the help of a walker or motorized scooter.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Justin, Martyr Catholic Church, 10851 Ridge Road, Seminole, FL  33778.  Services will take place in the Diocese of Buffalo at a later date.  Monsignor Cahill will be buried in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Niagara Falls, New York.

Surviving family members include two brothers, Brian and John (Jack) Cahill.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family of Msgr. Richard Cahill, c/o St. Justin, Martyr Catholic Church, at the above mentioned address.
