ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – Sister Joan Carberry, Assistant Principal at St. Paul Catholic School in St. Petersburg, has been honored by the National Catholic Educational Association with the Lifetime Commitment to Catholic Education Award, recognizing more than 65 years of dedicated service to education.

Sister Carberry has served the Tampa Bay community as a dedicated educator in roles including teacher, administrator, admissions director, and pastoral leader, including 25 years at St. Paul Catholic School. Known for her compassion and commitment to students, she has shaped generations through her faith-filled leadership.

In her acceptance remarks, Sister Carberry expressed gratitude for her vocation as a Franciscan Sister of Allegany, reflecting on God’s guidance throughout her journey. “I stand here tonight because God called me, and I said yes,” she said.

Principal Brendan Butcher highlighted her lasting impact, calling her “the heart of the Franciscan charism” at the school. Diocese of Saint Petersburg Office Manager Tony Johnston, who nominated Sister Joan, noted her lifelong dedication to nurturing students and inspiring a love of learning.

This national recognition honors Sister Joan’s enduring witness to faith, service, and excellence in Catholic education.
