The Chancellor’s Office received word that Reverend Kevin Mackin, O.F.M., 87, a retired priest of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor, passed away in the Lord on Saturday morning, November 15, 2025, at Teresian House, in Albany, New York.

From 2014 to 2020, Father Mackin served as Parochial Vicar of St. Raphael Parish, St. Petersburg, after which he continued to provide occasional assistance to the parish until early 2025. In June of this year, he was transferred to assisted living at Teresian House, in Albany, due to a decline in health.

Father Mackin made his first profession with the Franciscans in 1958 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Order on February 22, 1964. During his 61 years of priestly ministry, he served in various capacities, primarily in teaching and administration. He served as President-Rector of Christ the King Seminary, Aurora, New York (1982-1988), President of Siena College (now University), Siena, New York (1996-2007), and President of Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, New York (2008-2014), before being assigned to residence at St. Anthony Friary, St. Petersburg with service to St. Raphael Parish.

Visitation and a Vigil Service will take place at St. Mary of the Angels Chapel, at Siena University, Siena, New York, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025, 10:30 a.m., at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Butler, New Jersey, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery South, Totowa, New Jersey.

Locally, a Memorial Mass for Father Mackin will be offered on Monday, December 1, 2025, 10:30 a.m., at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1376 Snell Isle Boulevard N.E., St. Petersburg. Priests wishing to concelebrate are asked to bring an alb and to contact Father Curtis Carro, at St. Raphael Parish.
