The Chancellor’s Office has learned that Reverend James McAteer, I.C., 89 years old, a member of the Institute of Charity for 61 years, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025 in Dublin, Ireland, where he was currently living.

Father McAteer served in our Diocese as Pastor of St. Theresa Parish, Spring Hill, from August 1999 through August 2012, when he retired. During his retirement he also assisted St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Seffner, where he resided.  He continued to reside in our Diocese until December 2023 when he moved back to Ireland. 

Funeral arrangements will take place on July 16 at the Church of St. Mary, in Ireland.
