The Chancellor’s Office was informed of the passing of Mary Sidney Twachtmann (Stansfield) 88, on March 3, 2022.   Born in Wauchula, Florida, October, 20 1933, to Mary Nelson Stansfield and Sidney “Captain Sid” Stansfield, she was a graduate of Plant High School, Stephens College and Florida State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Dale Twachtmann and Jeannette Twachtmann; and her best friend and companion, Jeanette Friedheim; who’s large extended family considered her one of their kin.

Mary Sidney was a physical education teacher, administrator and board member at Morning Star School, Tampa, where she dedicated her life’s work as a teacher, fundraiser, counselor and mentor to the students, faculty and families for more than 50 years. As an avid golfer and ladies club champion at the Carrollwood Golf & Tennis Club, she was a sports enthusiast who instilled the values of sportsmanship and self-discipline in the many lives she touched.

A prayer service and reception were held Monday, March 14th, at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

She loved a grand road trip, the FSU Seminoles, her daughters, the sunsets and waves on the Gulf at her home away from home on Indian Shores.
